Cool toys....

Guess I meant to say if you want to have fun with your truck, stay with the 5 speed....easier to shift fast.

The 6 speed is a great transmission, just not suited for play. Too many shifts, too notchy of a pattern, it doesn't like to be shifted hard or quick....the NV4500 built correctly is a lot more adaptable to "fun" driving....

I'm hopin to pick up a Smarty in the near future. If it adds the low end power I need I'm fine with the 5 speed, if not i may have to change to the 6. With heavy loads this 5 speed just makes the engine work to damn hard between gears. It does it, I just don't feel right about it.

My '99 with the 5 speed had the 1st generation CaTCHER ECM......no problems with the RPM drop between gears, even pulling 10k plus.

Actually, the engine seemed to like it. Sounded cool, too with a straight pipe.

Anything under 15k is no problem at all but some of my loads get a little heavy. Right now I'm usin a 20' gooseneck and 25' steel stock trailer for most of my hauling. If I ever get it finished I'm buildin a 35' plus 5' dovetail with folding ramps to make it all flat, gooseneck with triple axles under it. Most of the hauling is rock and hay and they get little weighty sometimes.

You'd said at the beginning you were thinking of maybe a racing/pulling setup later, which is why I was thinking stay with the 5 speed.

For pulling, the 6 speed is much better.

For my purposes I'm just needing a writup for a fun bullet proof 400-500hp daily driver. But to expand on that for others out there since most of the folks on here seem to want monster trucks, it would be good to add onto this for them so that it could help everybody out. Sorry for the mis-communication, just tryin to look out for everybody at the same time.
