Default Recommendations for drop-in engine?

I have a 2004.5 Ram 2500, quadcab, longbed, with the 8th digit VIN = C, "Cummins 600" engine. It's crapped out: wrist pin is broken and there is a lot of blow-by.

I've decided to buy a low-mileage used or rebuilt engine rather than pay someone to rebuild my engine. So hoped that y'all could:

1. steer me in the direction of a reputable engine source, preferably online or with online listings;
--I'd like a warranty
--for rebuilt i'd like to know what they do--mill stuff? sleeve the cylinders or replace block, that type stuff
--for used, I'd prefer it to be less than 100,000 miles, preferably less than 75,000, and obviously as low as possible
--some general idea about what I should expect to pay

2. give me a heads up about questions to ask and any potential pitfalls;

3. let me know a reasonable price for pulling one engine out and replacing it with another ready to drop in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to ebay, there are shops that sell rebuilt long blocks with all new cummins
parts. They come with a warranty. $4,000.

where are you located? some parts of the country have tech schools and / or reman shops which might be a less-expensive option. buddy of mine in dallas goes to UTI there; they rebuild all kinds of engines as part of the curriculum and then sell them, or rebuild engines students have laying around. they're currently doing a d-max that one of the students lunched on the school dyno...

I'm in Memphis, Tennessee. I'm sure there is a tech school here and should probably ask around. Thanks for the idea. I guess in that situation, I buy the parts, they do labor? for free? for reduced amount?

I'm not familiar with a Cummins long block. What parts are the difference btw the long block and a complete drop in? i.e., is the turbo part of the long block? starter? alternator?
