Default transmission?

i talked to my local tranny shop about rebuilding my tranny and he said every tranny he rebuilt for a dodge cummins he just did a factory rebuild and put a dacco converter in it and never had any problems...he claims the 47RE is a good transmission the torque converters are just weak....is this true? would a rebuild like this hold up?

Check into a tranny rebuild kit from bd. Its the same parts as there performance tranny but like a fifth of the price of there complete tranny. And you can get the same thing from dtt i believe. But you still need to buy a torque converter from them but your still way cheaper and will have a really good tranny that way thats will take alot of power

My brother went the way your talking 2 years ago and now he need a new tranny again. Not saying this will happen to you but kits like bd's will be a better route in the long run. In my opinon. Spend alittle more money now and you wont have to fix it later.

I would go for more than stock with a converter. Upgrade to the red altos get a suncoast valve body and a good converter. If your planning on abusing the trans get an billet input at minimum. They are a good trans when properly built.

I personally would do a Suncoast Extreme Rebuild Kit, Suncoast Triple Disc Converter and Suncoast Valve Body.

I wish i did that the first time. Now i dont agree with the altos and kolenes being necessary. But the convertor, valve body, and other internals NEED TO BE UPGRADED!!!!

I did the BD uprgrade to include Billet flexplate, billet input shaft, billet triple disk TC, VB, Double deep pan and HD clutches for $6500 installed with the shipping of the parts. Buddy of mine did just a normal rebuild with a just a HD TC and had rebuild it 18 months later had to rebuild it again. The first one cost him $4400 with the TC, the second cost him $5000 because he did the full upgrade to match the TC. I have driven 1500 miles at 70mph+ at 27780lbs GVW and never got past 170deg even in the mountains. I love this trans.
