i might have misread something but i recall reading that the stealth plate actually increases HP and TQ. is this true?

It allows for the connection to be made at the VP44 from a performance product that adds fuel/timing, such as and Edge Juice. Without a fueling box, as in a superchip reprogrammer, "tapping" is not required. A stealth plate is a cleaner way to "tap" the pump without damaging any wires.

There is no opinion! You mentioned it already. a test light does not belong into a mechanics toolbox any longer.

In germany the mechanic is now called mechatronic. It shows where the trend goes:
mechanic+electronic
Even the cheapest multimeter will be better than a damage caused by the very low internal resistance of a "test light".
It should be a standard item in everyones toolbox.
A Multimeter has a very high internal resistance compared with the to be tested parts, protecting them from expensive damage- but, avoid to measure amerage in automotive applications.
Either the amperage is way to high for your multimeter (eg: do not try to measure amperage on a battery, starter or alternator or you can damage a lot of things. Those applications do need an amp clamp!
