Trouble with starting after modding
I have a 95 12 vavle with some slight mods. It has 4 inch exhaust and had a number 4 fuel plate that I just ground down to look like a #100. I moved it all the way forward along with the afc. I also turned the gov springs in 3 clicks and turned the star wheel to the point where you almost can't turn it anymore because its so far in. The truck feels like a totally different truck. I have owened this truck for almost 15 years and I wish I had did this sooner.
My question is I know have to give it gas to get it started and when it's totally cold it's real hard to get started and when you give it gas it stalls until it starts to warm up. I know it's fuel related but I was under the impression that the smoke screw was what controlled the pre boost fuel so I'm not sure what needs to be done. I have not touched the smoke screw just yet. Should I turn the star wheel back or move the afc back ?
New to bombing diesels so please bare with me.

sounds like when you clicked in your gov. springs 3 times you put to much preload on your idle springs. If you wana play with the stock gov. springs you should add shims behind the rpm springs. If you put too much tension on the idle springs youll get the starting/idling problem you have.
