Default smoke screw

so i just got done farting around under the hood. took the afc apart and installed different afc spring and took out the stock washers and put flat ones in. then i adjusted the smoke screw. i understand the less threads you see on the back of the afc the less you will see behind you while driving. so this is low end pre-fueling correct? the afc foot is already somewhat forward. on a test drive i notices high egt's down low and more top end boost which clears up the egt's (somewhat) just wondering if that is what to expect. i installed the governor spring kit about 1500 miles ago. so how often should you check the stud measurement to make sure springs are within the right specks?
