Default Smoke Screw

when I bought my 91 non intercooled the smoke screw was cranked all the way Down. No longer has a lock nut. Is it beneficial or should I back it out some. Not sure if this would effect how the fuel pin and diaphragm works.

Sounds like the PO didn't know there's other adjustments you can make

I would check how the fuel pin is indexed - its offset-ground so depending how you install it, utilizes a more/less aggressive profile. Use the most aggressive profile, back the smoke screw out some, read up on adjusting the fuel screw instead, and maybe advance the pump timing.
