Gutting AFC
#12
Why in the world do you want to gut your afc on a street-driven truck?
A properly tuned AFC and Pump will give you the ride of your life. The problem is most people only want to buy parts and throw them at the pump knowing what it really does for their pump or their combination. There is a lot more to these pumps than just turning on the ol puter, slipping to the world wide web and going off with your credit card on parts.I have said it before in other threads and will again here.Do your minor mods(DV's,Gov Springs,Plate) and let the rest to a pump man who can stand test what you have and set it for your injectors and engine combination.Yes it will cost money to do it the right way, nothing is free but I can assure you saving to have that done is alot cheaper than throwing parts at a combination which never gets you to the goal you want.
This is a road I have been down and can tell you what I spent and what I gained out of throwing parts at a combo that never ran right. The best dollar I spent was when I met my pump man and had mine gone through on a stand and set up with the injectors that I run.Once you have yours run on a stand and set up by a good quality pump shop you will understand what I mean..........Andy

This is most common for a gutted AFC. Too much fuel off the line "puts out the fire" as Piers would say. Too much fuel bogs the engine by choking out the charge and you get lots of smoke and less power. You have to have a pretty steady and soft foot to go without an AFC and get the power you want..

I can't stress enough how much this is true. You'll smoke out the road if not careful!
