i have a 2000 ctd i need a new ecm i can olny find one at the dealer for 1,600.00 any pointers on how i can save some $

Are you SURE its the ECM not the PCM... Just asking to make sure. You need to be CAREFUL a lot of sellers will mix the two up... I ran into this problem when i thought my ECU was bad... It actually was my TQ converter lockup wiring... Started backfeeding power through the PCM and ECM.

 

they carrie the pcm to might call them and explain your problem they might have the answer if its the ecm or pcm

 

needed a new ecm map sensor shorted it out

 

did you try the web site i posted i have ordered from them in the past for my 2002 dodge durange they gave me lots of info and things to try before we determend it was the ecm
