Default no power steering at idle

my 01 dodge had perfect steering then i decided to do a doughnut (i know bad idea). after i let out of it i had no power steering. checked fluid was low so i added some. was fine the rest of the night. then next morning i got in the truck had perfect steering then it started to fade. now i have no power steering at idle but when i rev the engine up i have it. ive checked fluid level still good.do you think i might have air locked it? or pump went bad? had a friend tell me i might of broke the shaft inside. any help or testing procedures would be greatly appriciated.

If you worried about a broken shaft, carefully open the reservoir while the engine is running. There should be some fluid splashing around. For air lock, I believe the procedure is to crank the wheels each direction as far as you can, multiple times. I like to do it with the wheels in the air so you don't scuff your tires. Otherwise, I think your looking at a powersteering pump. There not expensive, if you don't get one from Dodge.

the brakes all seems to be fine. when steering fades and when working. i tried with the cap off moving the wheels. did it a couple times and still no steering at idle and perfect steering when reved up to and over 1000 RPM. i went ahead and bought a new pump but befor i go about the job of putting it on i figured i better get some advice and see what you all thought.
