Default Batteries for the 02

Hey guys, after installing my new Airdog, and starting to prime the system, the starter is dragging and the batteries are just a couple years old. I've kept them on a charger and the same thing happens, bump the starter a couple times and they start dropping the charge to the point of flickering dash lights and interior lights. So what battery do you guys think and what size? 27, 31, 34, etc. I'm sure this will get all sorts of answers, but I would like to stay with something with a good reserve for the warn 12K on the front. Thanks in advance. Stay safe, and Merry Christmas.

I ended up installing a couple of group 31's in my '01 a few years ago. I got the DieHard Platinums at 1200 CCA each. I figure that should give me enough reserve to cover just about anything. Not having to worry about corrosion at the terminals was an added bonus.

How did the group 31's fit in the tray? I think group 27's were OE? Are those batteries sealed like the optima batteries are?

The batteries fit quite well in the tray, just had to trim a little off the base of the batteries. Group 27's are indeed OE, but they don't make them in the Platinum version, which is indeed a sealed type AGM battery. As stated earlier, I've had them in for about three years now and couldn't be happier with them. Easy starts even at -20!

I liked everything but the price,($209.99) and the fact that there isn't a Sears anywhere close.

you can go to napa and get a set of big rig batterys dont remember the series off hand with 1000 cca and 1250-1300 ca for around a 100 each i priced them for my truck the other day at 96 something here. some of you may have better luck with optimas but thats whats in my truck now and they are nothing but crap. i dont even think they would make a good boat anchor. 2 batterys and 4 days of not starting the truck and it will have to be jumped off. 5 hours of radio use and they wont start the truck...

I have one of those red top optima batteries here for a spare, and I agree with you, it's just junk IMHO can't make it hold a charge. I've found those (N)EverStart batteries with 850 CCA and 1000 CA's at Wallyworld for less than $80. Not a big fan of the place, but if what I have heard is true about the same company making the same batteries and just using a different sticker label on the case, I might as well save the coin for other uses.

I prefer Interstate Batteries. We have a place here we can usually get good deals on Blimished Batteries.
