When I removed my heat exchanger I removed all the steel lines. I now use low pressure hydraulic hose, rated for 600 PSI. Not steel core so they are very flexable. Hose is 1/2", and ends are JIC. I made a few adapters to go from 1/4" NPT to -8 (1/2") JIC. It's working really well.

 

is the heat exchanger the tank mounted on the side of the block?

 

Yes that is the one. Exchanging trans oil temp with engine coolant temp. Darn thing gets in the way when a guy throws another turbo into the equation.

 

i can only imagine. i never knew what that thing was. i just noticed it was on there when i installed my new trans. never could figure out what it was.
