Your oil leak may be simple, I had put my own oil leak off for almost a year out of pure procrastination...when it started getting hot in the summer due to the radiator being COVERED in oil, I broke down and decided to tackle the job. After reading alot of threads on here, I discovered a "pill bottle" on the front of the motor next to the fan. Apparently, this pill bottle is an overflow for oil and it is supposed to be emptied every so often. I bought some tubing from ACE and a few other odds and ends and the solution: no more oil on the front of my motor. I cleaned the radiator and shroud all nicely and it hasn't run better/cooler. Hope this helps...by the way, there is a "sticky" regarding this issue...

my oil coats are not on the radiator. the begin behind the harmonic balancer. and the trail goes down and then all over the oil pan and my front axel. but im not so sure its the front seal anymore im beginning to wonder if its just the timing cover that leaks. i read a couple of threads where people said that was they're problem. only thing is im not sure and i dont wana tear into it just yet until im sure. that way im not chasin parts. but thank you for your thoughts on it.

The only true way to check the injectors is to pull them and have them pop tested by a diesel shop. If you can find someone near you that has another set of good injectors then you can swap them out and see if the knock goes away.

Does the truck smoke at all?

Without hearing the truck run I can't say for sure but it sounds like it might be a major problem.
