Default hard start

My pump was rebuilt about 40xxx miles ago. Ran great after that up till now. Have a gauge on it and it was reading 5 psi when i had the nose pointing up hill. Leave it parked level or down hill it starts fine with 15 psi. So i decided to replace the check valve. Did that and the truck was starting fine for about a month. Then it hit the fan again and every time i point it up hill again it takes awhile to start. The gauge is reading 15 psi still so im wondering if something else is going on or.... might try and pull the valve to see if its bad. Dont know if there are good or bad ones to buy. I found it on ebay and it was 35 bucks thought it was a deal but maybe not. anyone have ideas??

Check the fitting at the back of the head for fuel return. It is possible it is allowing air to bleed back and "drain" the pump a little. If your nose down, it keeps the pump flooded.

So I checked that fitting and it was tight. I decided to pull off my check cable again and check it. Was able to blow thru it. So going to Dodge for a new one. No more cheep ones for me.

The overflow valve? If so, you should be able to blow through it a little. There is a little hole in the side that always allows fuel to flow.

I thought you couldn't blow thru them at all thats how It was originally when I got it new. I'm also thinking my washers are junk cause everything under that valve was wet.

New sealing washers are always a good idea. The fuel or air flow should be minimal as the hole is very small. Your cheeks should balloon up when trying to blow through. If you can easily blow air through then it is failed.

I put new washers on when I changed the valve. But they seemed kinda cheep when i started. There wasn't a ton of air flow going thru but for sure some was. So maybe ill start with washers and see if that fixes it.

If fuel can leak out, more than likely air can get in.

If you're leaking fuel then odds are you're getting air when you shut it down. A couple new copper washers will do wonders. Plus they're way cheaper than a valve.

if u have 15psi fuel pressure when ur cranking on it, thats why u have a hard start. they should be at 5psi when cranking. what kind of lift pump do you have? if its an airtex from like orielys, then theres ur problem. ive had to pull 4 off trucks here because of it causing them to hard start. put an carter lift pump back on it, and worked fine
