Default Lift Pump Failure

My 2001 5.9 started acting up on me two days ago. It would start fine but then begin to cough and idle around 650-700rpm. When i mashed it to the floor it would come out of it and work fine. Until today, it stalled on me, so i decided to change the fuel filter, that didnt fix it. It still idles rough but starts no problem. When i put the truck in gear it coughs real bad and once i release the brake to drive the truck will stall. I'm leaning towards the Lift Pump as being the problem here. Am I correct or could it possible be something else?

You have to scan the truck with an OBD-II scanner.

As well, it would be a very good idea for you to check your fuel pressure and put on a better lift pump than the oem piece of junk. Do a search for lift pump and be prepared for a week of reading.

I would also advise not driving the truck very far until you get those two things done.

Mitusa, Airdog, FASS, Glacier diesel are the big ones. There are others but these are the top ones.

But like I say, get the truck scanned and install a fuel pressure guage.

Heres what it should look like:

The holleys will last good as long as you have some type of filter before the pumps.

What about the kit that Bully Dog offers? I found it on jegs.com and it includes a Holley fuel pump and a bunch of fuel line. Also what kinda fuel pressure guage should I get if I'm going to get that metal cap for the fuel filter bowl? Electric or mechanical?

Or is there some spot on the VP thats better to tap into for a fuel pressure guage?

Actually scratch that, i just found the Fass DDRP
