All of a sudden Death WOBBLE
been using pb blaster for 2 days. i finally got them out. now i just need an extra set of hands to get the hub pushed out.

Got the hub out with little trouble. Which way do the ball joints press out? Upper goes up, and the lower goes down? The lower is definitely bad. I can wiggle the stud all over the place, where I cannot even move the upper by hand. The joints have been soaking in PB Blaster, but are there any other tips or getting them out? I have a press, and a BFH.

A good stout press should do it but if they're the stock ones they're a mother. In my case I used a hand press while the kid was poundin away with an air driver and they finally broke lose.
When you put em back together be sure to use some anti-seize just to make it easier the next time around.

Not smart enough to remember. As I recall there was a snap ring on one end of them that you had to pull and when that ring will go back in place you know your all the way in. Can't help ya right now on direction though. I checked Alldata and it don't tell nothin worth while here. I even tried to copy the pages out of the FSM to copy and paste but I guess I'm not smart enough to do that either cause it wouldn't work.
Hopefully somebody will jump up that has done more recently.

I have a copy of the service manual, but I did not remember it saying anything about direction. I will check again.

Per the factory service manual: Install and tighten lower ball stud to 35 ft. lbs. Install and tighten upper ball stud to 70 ft. lbs. Advance nut to next slot to line up hole and install new cotter pin. Re-torque lower ball stud to 140-160 ft. lbs. Advance nut to next slot to line up hole and install new cotter pin.
Now, if I can just get the old ones out

your best friend whilr emoving the stock ball joints is heat. it will save you a lot of time. All I used was a simple propane torch and a ball joint press. I cranked on the ball joint press until I couldnt as the propane torch was on the metal piece the ball joint fits on. little by little it will osen up and you'll be able to get a few cranks here and there on the ball joint press then all of a sudden BANG! it will pop out. it will scare the crap out of you the first time.
when replacing them make sure the joints arent off set as some of the ball joints have a 10 degree pitch or so and can mess up the alignment. check the one you take off, its pretty visible. then match the new ones to the old ones. other than that its simple

I did not get the adjustable ball joints, so I should be ok. I may need to get Paw to bring a torch. It sucks when you move away from home, and lose easy access to 40 years worth of tools. It does not help that I am working on my only means of transportation, either.

Truck has been aligned, and I will pick it up in the A.M. I gave them the alignment specs I found on TDR, and other sites. They could not a couple of the specs exact. I will post up what it is, and what I asked or it to be.

It still pulls to the right, but the vibration is gone. I know I need new tires, but could they be causing the pull? They are all the same pressure. Where do I need to go from here to resolve the pull. I do not want to put a new set of tires on this truck, and ruin them. Thanks!
