i just changed tranny fluid and filter, i pulled the pan down and replaced filter, all of the parts stores in the area said it will take 4 quarts to fill....i put in 4 quarts and 24 oz of lucas tranny additive....it says to check in neutral at idle, it is barely reading on the stick, then if u check it in park it is in the ok area....what am i missing?

 

checkin it in Neutral is right, but definately add somemore to keep that dang thing happy and cool. I really dont trust or listen to part store people because most of them dont know what a trannsmission is anyhow, you just nod your head and then leave and find out from a reliable source IMO

 

4 quarts to fill your trans? Holy crap.. man I know my Allison on a filter change takes around 16 quarts! Id double check some info, or just keep adding untills its in the right spot for sure!

 

if he did just the pan it doesn't hold that much but you must check these when warm. but still I would add a little and drive it till the thing is warmed up.

 

according to the service manual i have sitting in front of me, the 47re holds a total of 17quarts not counting 2 quarts in the converter. So youre way off
