2001 stumble, dead pedal, drop to idle while driving
Ok, I'm at my wits end.
When you drive, it like you let off the gas for one second, then it comes back. Again.... and again, very rhythmic. No codes. Sometimes it does it the whole 30 miles to work, sometimes not at all. If you hold the ignition key to the start position while driving, it will ding, lights come on, and it goes away. If in 3rd, it will quickly downshift and rev up in the same rhythmic pattern.
Has new VP, Timbo apps. Cleaned grounds and all electrical plugs. Did ECM apps bypass. Cleaned map and IAS. All sensors read on my Edge. Alternator wire shielded. All plugs are cleaned and di-greased. Fuel cap is vented.
I've tried everything. I'm out of ideas. When it drops off, it is bad. It goes to idle, pause, then power again. Like I said, if you hold the key like you are trying to start it (Starter wont come on if engine is running), it goes away, ruling out VP issues, air, etc. It is definitely electrical. No tach issues, ruling out CMP. Only codes are companion and 0500 (Speed sensor. This pops up from driving with the key in start position. It kills the sensor input.)
I'm about ready to give in and go back to a *Non Dodge truck name inserted here*. Please, for the love of bologna sandwiches, help me get this.... thing fixed. Every time I think I got it fixed, I don't.

BTW it did it before and after the VP replacement. If you have cruise on, it still does it, and cruise tries to fight its way through it. Only thing that stops it is key in start.

I can't believe this... but I fixed it. It wasn't the VP, or APPS, or grounds, but something I should have checked into more before.... alternator.
I checked it before, but a few days ago I pulled the alt field wires, and the problem went away. I made a filter out of a 2200uf cap, .1uf cap, and a quick recovery avalanche diode. I put it on the output lead of the alternator and ran the ground of my filter right to the frame of the alt. Then I put a snap on ferrite bead on the field wires. Problem is gone. TC locks up... everything.
Unfricken real. There are other people out there with the same issue. This thing kicked my butt for months. Lesson learned, if you have this issue, do all the steps. Grounds, APPS ecm bypass, alt filter.
Power from the alternator looks smooth as glass on my scope now, and the truck runs like it should. Fricke.... alterna..... ARGHHHHH.
