hi im trying to find answers here cause I keep getting different answers to my question. I had installed a fuel pressure gauge on my 02 2500 cause one day I was driving it down the highway and bassicaly ran out of fuel even tho my gauge said 1/4 tank left and 80 miles till empty. so is the fuel level indicator controlled by the lift pump or is it separate?
I also ask this question because I just installed my snubber valve so the fuel gauge doesn't jump around with the fuel pressure changes. I have the sensor installed between the vp44 and the fuel filter. but at idle im about 12 psi and when I do WOT it drops about 5. but I have been told the vp44 should not drop below 10 psi and should idle about 17psi. so would a bad lift pump cause issues with this? cause I need to get in their to replace the fuel level sending unit.

Where is your lift pump? most trucks the lift pump is mounted to the side of the motor block. So to answer the question, Yes if the pump is on the block, then fuel sending unit is separate. If your truck has the in tank lift pump, then the pump and fuel sending unit are together, but the pressure shouldn't effect your gauge reading. Yes into between the IP and fuel filter is a good spot for the fuel pressure gauge.

With the fuel pressure you are stating, it sounds like you have a factory lift pump. If you want higher pressure and is highly recommended on the VP trucks. Install an aftermarket lift pump, such as fass, airdog, or raptor. highly recommended before it takes out the VP.

To confirm what pump you have, I am assuming you have factory filter and pump on your truck.. Find the filter housing, just below it, and back towards the fire wall, you can see the factory lift pump, if its mounted to your block.
