when is a lift pump needed?
just bought a 06 truck from a dealership, truck was a one owner until it was just traded in.
truck has 185k miles, and has a bd compound kit, stock head bolts, stock lift pump, stock cp3 (im guessing) stock injectors(im guessing) and a tst powermax cr.
g56 truck with what feels like a triple disk clutch.
when driving and you get on it, it feels like it fuels hard, starts pulling then it feels like it hits a wall. then power starts coming back in, so im guessing it's dropping rail pressure. im going to ditch the tst, and go with efi live.
i'll probably put in a arson kit to help with the rail drain, but will i need a lift pump on it?
this being said, when is a lift pump needed? i've heard anarchy made over 600 on a stock lift pump, but when are they really needed? will a stock lift pump fuel a arson kit in the cp3?
any advice or experiences you've had let me know.

i think its good in general for better fuel filtration. if you have a gauge then watch it WOT. if it doesnt drop below 2 PSI WOT then you are good. if it starts dropping lower then that, then your cp3 is pulling fuel because the pump is not pumping enough fuel. as far as HP numbers, i am not sure.
You need 2 gauges to tell for sure. 1 to tell what fuel pressure to the CP3 is, the other to tell what your rail pressure is. As far as when is a lift pump needed, as said prior the additional filtering is great but on stock injectors there is no "need" for the aftermarket lift pump. My stock lift pump worked just fine (could maintain 24,000 psi rail under extended full load WOT runs) even with 45% over nozzles. However...after replacing nozzles w/ under 10,000 miles on them as well as injectors w/ under 100,000 miles on them, it was time to get serious about filtering the fuel. Additionally the CP3 relies on a good fuel supply for cooling as well as lubricating. I looked at that, what my injectors are capable of flowing (gallons per hour) and filtering needs. All those factors made the decision easier to part with more $$$ for my application. So far, I'm a happy FASS customer.
I agree with the above, not only will it help with filtration, which is need on the bosch 3 micron tolerance but also you'll notice a difference, at least I did. On my 2004 305, the block mounted lift pump went out and I replaced it with a FASS 150. You could tell the CP3 was a little happier. I don't recommend rolling coal, however with my smarty jr in the same setting as before would puff noticeably more with the FASS. So i figured it had to be doing something positive.
