Power Steering Pump
I have a 2001 2500 cummins and I noticed that it started leaking power steering fluid from the top of the reservoir. Also when I start it when its cold outside it whines really bad especially when you steer or step on the breaks. Help Please!
it sounds like you have air in it.

keep it full of fluid and drive it a few days and see if it gets better. mine did this for about 3-4 days after i changed the old pump out.

when i bought my 97 it had been sitting for a couple months. the power steering and brakes were doing this. the fluid in the pump looked like thin mud, so i determined the pump was probably bad. changed it out,and flushed the system, and still had the same problems. Jacked it up,turned the tires back and forth while the engine was off to work the air out. this helped somewhat but i wound up driving the truck for about 3 days before it finally got all the air worked out, the hydroboost quit whining and it got easier to steer.
guys just so you no my 01 did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad cap got a new one and works great and as long as its a saginaw cap it will fit just swap over the cavitation ring and you have it
