Autos are nicer when it come to draggin in my oppinion, It was 300 for me to get new fluid, flush for my tranny and t-case, I like manuels, but I have yet to regret my auto, you can still break a manuel with to much power and end putting in money for a clutch and so on, as long you dont try to make a stock tranny take on 500 horse you will be ok, I had a buddy with a 12 valve with around 500 horse and that tranny got toasted, but Its is very hard to find a manuel in good shape, just when you go to try out the truck just take it to some one reputable and have it checked out, and drive it around and see how it shifts. If you want major horse power you gonna dump major money into everything, the engine and the tranny, but if you spend 5K on a tranny you are set, just keep up maintaince, but if you just lookin for a lil power then I wouldent worry to much, I talked to Raw a while back about programmers and the Comp box sounds nice, but I dont want nothing huge, so I plan on the Edge Ez and eventually some 40 horse injectors, I would not put 1000 HP injectors, and do they even exsist, I know they stop at 100-200 hp then it just nozzle size. But, Make sure the tranny good, and if it is, dont worry just keep in mind if you want serious power, then you need a serious tranny, But this is where I put my money first, Guages, Tranny, Intake (Still needing to do that) Exhaust, I just hacked the ole muffler off and bought a 3 inch pipe beveled so it slides right over the exsisting pipe and welded it on, (Gained 2 MPG Highway) Exhaust Manifold I have a DPS Manifold and No regrestsm and if you live where its cold, Id get your PCM programmed for winter Mine is Programmed for High Idle after 10 Degrees and 3 Cyl Warm UP at -25 nice warms the truck up fast. Then after all is said and done get into the mod's Chip, Fuel Systems the goodies.. Have fun and keep the questions comming, and if I catch you smoking in my town I will install a Diesel Particlant Filter on you truck while yousleeping.. But keep up the questions dont mind helping ya, but like I said take the truck you looking at to a reputable trannsmission shop and get er checked out.

Other Things to look for.

Front End Cover for Oil
Oil Pan gasket.
Inspection Gasket on the Driver Side behind the Injection Pump
Rear Main
Pinon Seal
Axel Seals
U Joints.
When you get it I highly suggest Performing Valve Lash.

Nice truck, just don't fool yourself into thinking a manual is bulletproof. find out about fuel system upgrades, etc it doesn't have any listed.

Your willing to spend 300 on an OEM bumper, if you do that make you own. Idk bout that second truck looks nice, alot of milage and alot of money for it, but looks clean on the outside. up to you man, I still would try to snag number two did he send any pics of the engine compartment. to me the bumper not the end of the world. Espicially if you get a deal like I did bought this bumper for two hundred cash, And gave the guy my oem bumper. Look at LMC Truck bet its alot cheaper.
