Default Trans Trouble....Help!?!?

Hey, i took my 91 out for a drive yesterday and it was runnin fine. it had the trans rebuilt to spec by the previous owner last summer. it still has that little "kick" when shifting from first to second but smooth the rest of the way...(automatic) i pulled onto a rural gravel road and turned around to head home....and it wouldnt shift out of first gear....i drove about 7 miles at 12 mph and then as i was goin down a little hill it shifted into second...i slowed down and let it shift back to first and got it home....checked the trans fluid and it was actually way to full....could that be causing it to slip....what is the problem and what will it take to fix (parts, time, money)please tell me what you think...

It havin to much could cause a problem (so i've heard) but when you checked your fluid level did you leave it running and in neutral when you checked it?? Or just in park?

Pull the pan and change filter, adjust bands (both) and put a bottle of Lucas in the pan before bolting it back on. Add ATF+4 and go for a 20 minute drive to get it hot then check level hot in neutral. Should be between full and add not pegged at full.

The fluid being overfilled could be the problem, or it may need to be changed. It could also be something to do with your kickdown cable, might need to be adjusted. Id try looking at that.
