Default Replacing headgasket

Hey guys,

Well I've got a pretty good leak going on at the forward pass side...thought it was my thermostat for quite some time

So besides replacing the head bolts, going to go with studs....mayhaps A1 if i can get them, is there anything else you all would recommend to replace....was also thinking on an upper end seal kit

Machine the head to "true it up" combined with the studs you should be golden. Have your valves checked while at the machine shop.

I have to agree with TOWER.. One of my companys 4bt engines had the exact same thing. And i thought it was the thermostat housing, Which was obviously the HG. So I replaced the head gasket and had the head milled down. Fixed it!!!. I dont know why it did it, But it did. The head gasket just fell apart.

I'm sure you know but just a tid bit... do not take the fuel lines apart from each other... leave the clamps on them. i would do the KDP while your down that far... i just did it on a buddies truck... its also a good time to advance your timing while the nuts are easily accessible!!! that's all i can think of now!!!

depends on what kind of power range you are gunna shoot for. if you have the extra money id go for the thicker gasket. at least the .10 over and youd be good for whatever you wanna do. i put a stock one on my truck a year and a half ago and i wish i had the money at the time to do studs and thicker gasket.

i wouldnt recomend a .020 over marine gasket just stick with a .010 i did the .020 when i overhauled my engine truck has had a blue haze at idle since rebuild did a bunch of work a few weeks ago and dropped back down to a .010 and 90% of that idle haze went away

Yeha more than likely will just stick with .010 over. so going to do the upper end kit, 60lbs valve springs and studs. Going to try to install my M & H timing spacer as well, have one of the screw heads stripped out
