Default 1993 727 swap for overdrive trans

im thinking of buying a 1993 extended cab longbed 4x4 cummins.i dont much about the 1st gen but i hear they only have a 3 speed in them.is there a way to put a 4 speed out or a 1994-98 in it. i heard about gear venders overdrive kit but 3 gran is pretty pricey. any hep will be appriciated.

1993 has an overdrive transmission (a-518)

1989 - 1991(non inter-cooled) had 3 speed transmissions.

You could still upgrade to the 47 out of the 94-95 tucks for the lockup converter.

that 3 speed is called a 727. the a518 is ok, but down the road you'll learn to hate it. (I did)If you have nothing yet, for the long run, go with the 47rh thats (RH) then put o/d and the lockup on a switch and you get the lockup torque converter which is better for power, mpg and towing, or go with the nv4500. keep searching ther are lots of stuff on these swaps.try google search. good luck
