HAHA I was watching that convo....
i'll have what I need to order parts soon so hoping I can at least get the rear done this weekend. Taking it apart I didn't find any shims
guessing that's where it went bad. and the race on the left side of the carrier was cracked and pretty much disintegrated when I pulled it, but that could have been me hammering on it trying to get the truck home sounding like a mobile jackhammer and getting a lot of WTF? looks

Mine didn't have any shims either except behind the bearings and a few on the pinion. i kept them all together so I should have an easy install.
ahh. mine had none behind the bearings, not sure on the pinion yet didn't manage to get that out.. letting the PB blaster do it's thing till tonight.
and yeah you blew teeth off. I just powdered mine haha.
guess whoever changed it over to 4.10 and added lockers just slapped it together quick
then again, I put 30k on it this year.. 10% of that was towing

What kind of locker is it? If it's a Trac Lok then it's stock and so are the 4.10s.Originally Posted by Budgreen

In the factory service manual (which I'm hoping you have for a step-by-step) it had a section on rebuilding the Dana Trac Lok carrier. Here's mine:

That's the normal failure mode on these - shims beat out.Originally Posted by Budgreen

beats me.. not much for markings other than a patent, some random numbers and a big X in the casting in a few places.
I tried to look it up. haha
patent is for a locking diff
edit: as far as stock the build sheet(tag) for the truck says it has 3.54's and a limited slip
the speedo reading vs. actual speed is the difference between the 4.10 and the 3.54 so i'm gonna go back to 3.54 as soon as this check clears i'm gonna find whoever can get them to me fastest haha

Diesel Wrench
my trck has a tag on the front of the hood that says what axle i have and mine is the spicer 70 with limited slip
Thats what mine says. but it's a 70u which is the light duty model. apparently what they used for dually's? idk.
anyways gonna test drive it tonight and see how it does. I really need to buy a bearing puller because I can't for the life of me get the carrier bearings off to remove 1 shim to make it all perfect
