on the side of the power steering pump case, there is the vacuum line that comes off for the brakes. since i have hydroboost im not using it and its just capped off

but my question is if it is capped off would it cause the power steering not to work?

 

my uncle replaced the vaccume pump on my truck when he owned it. like after a mounth of not having power brakes. and he drove it every day so i don't think it would really hurt anything

 

but if all is still being allowed to flow through the power steering worked it wouldnt ever notice it being clogged. i just dont know if by clogging that line it messes up the way something works or spins

 

anyone know the answer for this?

 

i would say at most i may let a check valve hang open or something.....you could allways take it apart one day and see. i just don't know enouff about it to tell ya for sure. sorry i can't be more help!

the vacumn pump is connected to the power steering pump, they are seperate units.........if you dont need the vac pump then just take it off

 

It would be interesting to see how you bolt the PS pump to the back of the timing case without the vacuum pump. In any event, there is no harm to plugging the vacuum port. That's what it would see in a perfectly sealed system anyway: vacuum. I would however also be interested to see how the heater controls work (or not) without vacuum.

 

thanks nadirpoint thats exactly what i needed to know. the engine is a chevy truck so heater controls are electronic so no worries there
