No its a good turbo. Just in its stock form like if you just ordered a factory replacment or went to the junk yard and found one off a big truck you would do better with a Super40. The 40 flows more air.

All the ones you buy from vendors like Industrial Injection, HTT, ect. are aftermarket (been modified from stock) and flow better then the Super40.

Here is some info from KTA

Standard HX40 and Super HX40 (this is in Metric) Peak mass flow for the Super Hx40 at 70% efficiency is 66lbs/m

I talked directly to borge warners tech guy and he told me the 57mm S300 model has a MAP of 60 pounds per min and will flow 870 cfm's. He did not recomend boosting over 45 psi.

Ya I think for $20 more I can get the 62/65/12, but I heard that was for more performance then towing/DD.

Plus I might be getting an 89 Reg. Cab cummins with a 5 speed tranny for $500 for the whole truck to converte my truck to a manual.

Are you against getting a used turbo?

I've seen many used HX40's go for $400-$500 with less than 20K miles on them.

A Super HX40 is a wonderful towing turbo, and is capable of cooling 400rwhp. That's the direction I am going to go, but I'm sure a 62/65/12 would be fine too.

I've has very good luck with the CompD (Competition Diesel Forums) classfields. That is a performance oriented site, so a lot of guys are selling their "small" turbo's to go bigger, and usually have a good price.

I'd look on there for a couple weeks, and I can almost guarantee you what you want will pop up.

The super still does more
I would not waste my money on a factory BW turbo. Get one from a compay that makes performance turbos with a 62 wheel.
But I'm also not a fan of the HX40 turbos so that would be a touh call!
