Truck Running hot. What Turbo?

I fear that by me going to a lower gear, which in this case would have to be 2nd, that not only will I be pulling at a much slower speed, but also I am only going to run at least the same coolant temps and can maintain the same EGT's, however making the pull take much longer, therefore I am not sure if I am only then adding more stress to the engine due to longer time it will take to get to the summits of these passes?
Thank you.

Bobby, during these climbs, in 3rd gear, my boost rates are between 20-25 lbs. I must also add that this past weekend I made a short trip to a reservoir only 45 miles from home and only one mountain pass of a 6.7 % grade, and unfortunately, now I have spun a rod bearing, possible main, but TBD when pulling her apart here at home. It did this with no egt over 900 (aft), and turbo pressure only around 17 LBS as only taking my sweet old-man time...
