Bobby has a point, it may be in too tall of a gear, what gear are you towing with and what rearend gear does your truck have, also what RPM are you at???

During these pulls and because I am losing power and RPM's during the climbs, she shifts into 3rd gear. (I do not know exactly what the RPM's are as no tachometer). In 3rd gear I could accelerate as plenty of pedal however in watching my EGT's, I am reluctant in going any further to maintain a steady 1000 degress. My gears are 4:11's with posilock rear-end.

I fear that by me going to a lower gear, which in this case would have to be 2nd, that not only will I be pulling at a much slower speed, but also I am only going to run at least the same coolant temps and can maintain the same EGT's, however making the pull take much longer, therefore I am not sure if I am only then adding more stress to the engine due to longer time it will take to get to the summits of these passes?

Thank you.

What is your boost doing?

Also you need to get a tach.

Bobby, during these climbs, in 3rd gear, my boost rates are between 20-25 lbs. I must also add that this past weekend I made a short trip to a reservoir only 45 miles from home and only one mountain pass of a 6.7 % grade, and unfortunately, now I have spun a rod bearing, possible main, but TBD when pulling her apart here at home. It did this with no egt over 900 (aft), and turbo pressure only around 17 LBS as only taking my sweet old-man time...

Indeed Bobby. Well I think I might have been just a bit slow on the turbo upgrade, as that certainly could have given her the air she was begging me for. Now I am in the pursuit of just getting a complete used Generation2 truck. From all articles I have read it appears to me that the '02 model was the very best as to HP and LB/FT torque? Then again in 2006. I will create a new post as to my new questions that perhaps everyone here could help me with so that I get the right model I need for my application. Thank you Bobby and everyone else who responded to this message in all your assistance to me, I am very grateful to you all.

Bill
