Default 7.3 Truck Turbo vs Van Turbo

Whats the difference? I heard the van turbo is bigger, but where and hows it stack up to the truck turbo and against the after market? considering buying a wicked wheel and ats exhaust housing, but its only for the trucks? confusing. someone please enlighten me

The van turbo mounts different and has a bigger exhaust housing. Other then that they are the same. Personally I'm not a fan of putting money into a stock turbo, but if you do only do a wicked wheel 2. Dont waste the money on the compressor housing.

yea that's what I was thinking, a bigger turbo is like slightly more than 1100 bucks, and the ats and wicked wheels like 550 shipped. what is a good upgrade for towing heavy? the truck has good power but it gets warmer than I would like. people have told me I should get larger injectors, but more fuel makes more heat in a diesel if I remember correctly

ive got a 4" turbo back, no muffler or cat, a diesel site hpop (mine went about 10 days ago) a cai and an sct tuner. ill be honest, things pretty quick for being 7800 lbs and not being intercooled. I like the power level. I do not like the temps or fuel efficiency, thing gets about 8mpgs pulling 20-22k

What year is it? If your getting hot your issue is no intercooler. And good tuning would help out too

yea the sct is trash definetly, but I got it for 40$ at a swap meet sooo I figured what the heck why not. its a 2000, and yea I wish I could intercool it but there's like maybe 7/8ths of an inch of room in near the radiator.

the 6.0 vans are intercooled, ive never seen a 7.3 intercooled van. theres simply no room for it, theres threads on running water intercooler but that's no good for daily driving or towing
