Default Transmission dying? Need HP converter?

My old 96' 12v is heading south I do believe, or at least the automatic tranny is. Sometimes when I go out to start it in the morning, the thing won't move. I put it in gear and it goes no place. It will move after it warms up for ten minutes. Does this mean the torque converter is blown up? I changed the tranny fluid and filter and adjusted the bands not 3000 miles ago. The truck does have a #6 fuel plate and aftermarket cold air intake with 5" exhaust but I generally don't drive it hard, in fact I'm very light on the throttle unless pulling my camper which only weighs 5000 pounds. Can it be fixed so that I can use the Cummins like it was designed or should I consider another truck? Does anyone have a source for GOOD, high performance converters or tranny build kits? What else would I need to change in the tranny?

stock power ratings will destroy our automatic transmissions. definitely worth replacin the tranny n not the truck. Goerend and Suncoast are the 2 big names when it comes to a strong replacement

My one truck does the same thing, I've noticed it matters if its parked level or not. I was told it is the TC, that just let it warm up, Its not saying it can fail right away, but its not good either. Also I believe there is a check valve in a line that hold you fluid up by the trans cooler, that could be it. Your Tc is probably draining out and your waiting to fill it when you start it back up. Run it 1st to r a few times to speed it up. Side note I have an old Chevy that has been doing this for 2 years now, I mean bad, like howling and whining, will not move for 20 minutes, but it warms up and shifts like new.

i would say just put a manual in it! but if you have to hae a at i would say rebuild it andreplace the converter with something that will hold. it always a good i dea to get a little more than what you need so you dont have to worry about accidentally over doing it or if you decide to do something else to the truck you dont already have your tranny maxed
