thanks davo79 for the referal. i got in contact with someone who qualifie to rebuild the pump. he mention from the fact that the truck still shuts off that the entire pump assembly should not need to be reworked. he mentioned maybe just the internal governer linkage is found the bolt and would need to be replaced. he gave me an estimate of $200 bucks. thats the best news i've had since yesterday.

also, this would be a decent time to go ahead and start replacing or upgrading parts. i'm going to go ehead and say it's used for towing, because at certain times i pull a trailer alot and then maybe not for 6 months. i don't want any problems when i do need to hook up to the goosneck. some things like, 4k spring set, new overflow valve, maybe new delivery valves. i don't want it too hot tho, so maybe skip the delivery valves as i've read that they may not be needed and go for some better injectors. what are the thoughts on this?

i thin someone mentioned that i set of 215 injectors would be good for hauling, and are delivery valves something to look into. i read that alot of people make good power with the stock delivery valves.
also, don't have the cash for a book on this thing till payday. anyone have a link to some info on taking this thing out?

what is the difference between a manual tranny p-pump and an auto?
also, still couldn't find any real info on taking this thing off, any one have a link?

but i could interchange them for now, until i get some money to do what i want to my 215 anyways right? i found a 180hp pump for $175 i think, waiting to get the call back to see if they have it in the yard still.
i just read over on comp diesel, that the 180 is better stock. but the 215 will push more fuel with less done to it than the 180. i was just making sure that i could interchange them and it'd work on my truck.

you can swap them but no alot of people will not agree when you say a 180 is the better of the two pumps it all depends on what you want to do a 215 has the capability of making big numbers you just dont have the same rack travel because of the retarding notches and if someone ever figures out how to make a 215 pumps advance the timing with increased rack travel look out that will be the best performing mechanical streetable engine
