sounds like air... jack the front end of the truck and go from stop to stop with the engine off atleast... 20 times. check the fluid and start it up... it may still whine abit but symptoms should be dramatically better... drive it around. if it's air it'll stop with normal driving

see if the lines do interhcange... i dont think they do but the lines on the steering box shouldn't effect the lines that feed the hydroboost... may have washed a piece of dirt through the pump. if the relief valve is stuck open you won't be able to turn the wheel (doesn't build pressure) but a whine is typical of air; it's the only reason i know of that makes PS pumps whine.

it's built into the pump; on the high pressure side right before it goes into the hose... usually if you crank the wheel all the way to one side or the other and bottom it out against a stop it'll peak pump pressures and you should hear a hiss... the hiss is from the power steering fluid being bypassed (the pressure relief will be unseated in this position, but seated in normal operation) if your having problems steering it at higher speeds it sounds like the pump is having a cavitation problem... it may be getting air locked
