Default steering box

My truck has about 4 inchs of play in it both ways and when I let go it pulls to the right hard. What do I need to do or replace in order to stay on the road in the morning, its hard enough to stay awake!

You need to climb under it and have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth, while you look for whatever's loose. Could be steering box, any of the steering linkage, ball joints, wheel bearings, or track bar. Don't just start throwing parts at it, fix the ones that are bad.

Along with all this make sure that track bar has your truck centered right. If it is a constant pull to one side chances are that track bar isn't centered.

i have the same amount of play in mine 50% is from the slop in the stearing shaft ant the other 50% is from the gear box. im going to build my own steering shaft this winter to eliminate the play

I converted to the Borgenson steering shaft and in my case it made no difference but the new steering gear was like night an day difference.

Have a look through this thread. It covers about everything there is to the front end of your truck. https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-2...d-rebuild.html
