its 2 wheel drive. no transfer case

oh. duh. retard day.

Just don't forget to get a real trans jack. Easier to get it off and in my experience its next to impossible to get it back on straight without one.

You'll be considering buying a lift after trying to get the crossmember back in
REMOVAL

Disconnect battery negative cable.
Shift transmission into Neutral.
Remove screws attaching shift boot to floorpan. Then slide boot upward on lever extension.
Remove shift lever extension with Remover/Installer Tool 6783 as follows:
Scribe mark position of extension on shank of shift lever.

Position notched, lower end of tool just under square shank of shift lever.
Position tool upper jaws under flange on shift lever extension.
Tighten tool screw to pull extension off square shank of shift lever.
Remove lever extension and tool.
Raise and support vehicle.
Mark propeller shaft and axle yokes for alignment reference. Use paint, scriber, or chalk to mark yokes.
Remove universal joint strap screws and remove straps.
Remove propeller shaft.
Disconnect and remove exhaust system Y-pipe.
Disconnect wires at speed sensor and backup light switch.
Support engine with adjustable safety stand and wood block.

If transmission is to be disassembled for repair, remove drain bolt at bottom of PTO cover and drain lubricant from transmission.
Remove bolts/nuts attaching transmission to rear mount.
Support transmission with a transmission jack. Secure transmission to jack with safety chains.
Remove rear crossmember.
Remove bolts attaching clutch slave cylinder to clutch housing. Then move cylinder aside for working clearance.
Remove transmission harness wires from clips on transmission shift cover.
Remove bolts attaching transmission to clutch housing.
Slide transmission and jack rearward until input shaft clears clutch housing.
Lower transmission jack and remove transmission from under vehicle.
INSTALLATION

Apply light coat of MOPAR high temperature bearing grease to contact surfaces of following components:
input shaft splines and pilot bearing hub.
release bearing slide surface of front retainer.
pilot bearing.
release bearing bore.
release fork.
release fork ball stud.
propeller shaft slip yoke.
Apply sealer to threads of bottom PTO cover bolt and install bolt in case.
Mount transmission on jack and position transmission under vehicle.
Raise transmission until input shaft is centered in release bearing and clutch disc hub.
Move transmission forward and start input shaft in release bearing, clutch disc and pilot bushing.
Work transmission forward until seated against clutch housing. Do not allow transmission to remain unsupported after input shaft has entered clutch disc.
Install and tighten transmission-to-clutch housing bolts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque.
Install clutch slave cylinder.
Connect speed sensor and backup light switch wires.
Fill transmission with recommended lubricant. Correct fill level is bottom edge of fill plug hole.
Position transmission harness wires in clips on shift cover.
Install transmission mount on transmission or rear crossmember.
Install rear crossmember.
Remove transmission jack and engine support fixture.
Align and install propeller shaft.
Lower vehicle.
Install lever extension on shift lever with Tool 6783 as follows:

Reposition upper jaw of Remover/Installer Tool 6783 above flange on lever extension. Tool will now be used to press extension back onto shift lever.
Tighten tool screw to press extension back onto lever. Press extension to scribe mark made during removal. A 3 - 5 mm (0.12 - 0.20 inch) space should exist between shift lever isolator and top edge of stub shaft and tool lower jaw.
Remove special tool.
Install shift boot and bezel.
Connect battery negative cable

wheres it pouring from? You could take the shift stub out. its hard to explain in words, but you push down on the metal ring around the stub and turn it counter clockwise, its spring loaded. it has to be in neutral. A big pair of channel locks usually does the trick. I didn't think of that prob since I cut my hole big enough to pull the top plate out the top.

i think that will give me enough clearance.thanks for the vid and i meant it was pouring down rain on me.it has been doing so in sunny fl almost every afternoon.
some ball bearings came out so i think the release bearing is the culprit.while i am in there though i will be replacing clutch.cover/release/pilot and anything else i see that may need it.thanks for the vid had to load in different window though

yeah definately a good idea to replace the bearings while you have it torn apart. The throwout bearing is usually the first thing to go. Make sure there's no more bearings floating around in there before you put it back together.
no prob on the vid. no classes until 6 and i have nothing better to do

get a bottle jack and a 2x4 and jack up on the front of your engine. That will tilt the engine and give you enough room to clear the shift tower. Put the board between the jack and the oil pan so you don't dent the pan.

Also get a couple ratchet straps and strap the tranny down to the jack so it doesn't roll off on you.

ANd I hear ya about the pouring rain part. I' ve been trying to put my transfer case in for a week now
