Clutch install and removal HOW to?
truck stopped going in gear.the hydrolics wont push the clutch fork in and fluid leaked out of the slave cylinder.Possibly onto clutch.i am going to replace the clutch and whatever else i find.
i have a service manual to look up about changing it out but after looking at the two piece driveshaft i am wodering how do i get the trans backed out without taking out the driveshafts?tthis will be my first clutch install.i am unsure how the driveshafts can come out. hopefully some body can give me some ideas on how to remove and install the trans |
You are going to have to remove the drive shaft to slide the transmission back. Having the drive shaft removed will give you more room to work.
I'm not trying to be mean! BUT if this is your first clutch job get some one to help you thats done it before. Without having someone with experience it's a simple job that can be a real pain in the butt! Drive shaft is by far the easiest part of the installation!
Yup you have to remove the drive shaft. With a little help it should go smooth.
OK but how do i even get the driveshaft out?remove bolts, slide what?.I have a 2wd model....it looks like i could remove the bolts from the rear yoke near rear axel and then the carrier in the middle ,but there must be another way that is easier and lighter.
two bolts on the carrier, and 4 on the drive shaft yoke at the rear end and it drops down , slide to the back and its out!
ok thats how i thought you could get it out.thanks]
if there are any other ways i would like to know. |
thats the ONLY way. Do you have the truck on a lift? Also, The cross memeber is the most challenging part of the install. Would you like me to post the tranny R&R procedures?
i do not HAVE the truck on a lift.it is on stands.if you could post the install on the trans that would be great.
its not too hard if you take your time. definitely rent a trans jack though! also, I'd advise taking the transfer case and trans off separately, they are heavy and can be quite a hazard together. I did my first clutch job on the truck, just don't lose any bolts, take it step by step, and torque and thread lock everything. A haynes book will walk you through it step by step.
