Default Transmission

Im going to get a transmission from a buddy with like 130k miles on it. I bought a book on rebuilding it, its got everything and how to go about doing it. I figured I could do it in my spare time on the weekends. So my question is. Is it like super hard to rebuild an automatic transmission if you have never done it before? I am pretty mechanically inclined, I can usually figure out how things work and they go together. I am confident that I can do it. Or should I go to a professional, because I hear to many bad things about transmissions not being put together properly and IM very meticulous.

If your in no hurry to get it in just take your time and learn. There are many trans builders out there that if you get stuck or forget where something goes they would be willing to lend some advise.

Havent been on for a couple weeks cuz of work. Well thanks for all the advice. I bought the book from transmissionpartsusa.com but they sent me the wrong book, its suppose to be an ATSG service guide for the 47RE but they sent me the 42RE even though I am positive I clicked on 47RE. Maybe these transmissions are so similar that they use the same book???

I called transmission parts usa and they said everything is very similar in these transmissions, but he also said there is no specific service guide for the 47RE. He said the 618 book would be a little more similar based on the hydraulics but the 42RE includes all the electronics.
