Default pull cable for fuel shut off

i purchased a parker P.T.O. cable and am in the process of installing. any tips or tricks.
should put a spring with tension to shut off. this cable doesnt lock it s just the tension type.
i thought the nice locking one would be worn out in half of year because of the constant use.
any suggestions.

I ran a cable on my '94 from the shut off "lever" through the firewall and then through the seam of the two portions of the dash - still had to drill a hole in the dash. It was just plain cable - like clothes line cable and I put a spring to keep it in the ON position and just pulled the cable to kill it. I would have rather had a PTO cable but hey... I did it on an emergency basis and just never fixed it. Sold the truck that way too. It was REALLY easy.

I did the same thing. Temp fix till I got another solenoid.
Making a bracket was the fun part.

that's fine. the type of cable isn't the big deal to me, it's the spring backing it up.

any parts house has "throttle return springs" in the help section. get you a stiff spring for the shutoff so you know it wont shut off on you when u least expect it.

What don't last? The solenoid is very simple and reliable. As far as I know mine is the original one with 120k on it. It's the relays, that sometimes go, but more often it's the (blue?) wire from the battery that goes bad. Usually MIS-diagnosed as a bad solenoid.

I have a PTO cable on my truck for a shut-off, and no complaints ever! No need for a spring, there isn't any tension on the cable to pull it to the "Off" position. Push in is on, pull out is off, works like a charm.
