If you install the studs correct like the directions say no retorques are needed.

Correct, only need re-torques with rings.

Nope. The rings slowly ckmpress more and more causimg the clamping pressures to reduce. The head gasket will completely compress at initial torque. Anything with rings will require atleast 3 re-torques.

for o rings or no rings I don't retorque ... with fire rings I retorque.

I was told by Dynomite Diesel here in Monroe ... always re-torque with either ... I guess its better safe than sorry .....

I think its a matter of insurance either rings ( o-ring or fire ring )..

I re-troque heads even just plain ... after a few thousand miles .. just safe that way ..... :tu:

If ypu mark the nuts you'll find that with o rings or fir rings either that when you retorque that you'll get quite a more threads each time. If you have trucks that a o-ringed I sugges you re torque them ASAP. I've got a truck coming in Monday with a blown gasket because of no retorques with o rings. If you will go do it you'll find why it is absolutely required! A factory gasket you'll get no additional thread. By re torque we're all talking pulling one nut at a time off, clean it, apply more thread lube andnre torquing one by one, right?

So if you don't need to retorque ur head studs when using a regular gasket, more than likely my blown gasket was do to a warped head.
