Pfft 50mpg? My MODDED tdi does 60-62mpg all day long. With JUST highway driving (going the speed limit though), I can go from Buffalo NY to Myrtle Beach SC on 1 tank of diesel (around 1k miles). Most tanks of 90% highway and 10% city, w/ cc set to 6-7mph over the speedlimit, I'll get a good 55-57mpg. The more you mods these, the better the mileage is.

5spd, g60 clutch, front mount intercooler, 2.5" charge piping, 3" exhaust, 2.5" downpipe, pd150 intake manifold, egr/cooler delete, stage II rocket chip, .502 injectors, in tank lift pump, ceramic pads, kyb's, new tires, LOTS of mods. Gets 800 miles+ on highway and have pics to prove it.

I agree about the driving styles! I have always thought I could get more miles out of a tank than most others but maybe I should re-think that. My mileage has gotten worse again lately. In fact, a few tanks ago I only got 13.5 mpg running empty. . . . That is about the time I 'straightened' out the exhaust even more than it was before
