You can add a cold air intake, AFE's got one, BD, Bullydog, have boxes available. I believe REVO has a program for the diesels now. There are injectors available, I've seen propane kits. There is stuff out there. A couple issues ago in Diesel Power Magazine there was an cool write-up on a BOMB'd jetta. I think the article may even be floating around here. I'll try and find it.

ever heard about a ball bearing from the turbo hitting the oil pump and braking the whole engine. only thing i didn't have to replace was the block, and the head. thing runs good now but before that i had to replace little stuff evry oil change. the incident happened at 60,000 miles. does this ever happened before. never done any mods or any thing like that. most of the miles were fhighway miles and never missed a oil change

I don't see how that could happen? The only time I've seen turbo issues with any of the V-dubs is from lack of maintenance?

my dad was driving it home from work and the display said low oil stop immedialety. pulled it over and it wouldn't start. took it to the dealership and they found metal shavings in the oil pan. by the way they tried to rip us off and make us pay 10 grand to get a new engine. does that happen a lot at your dealership.

VW's especially the 2001 to 2003's will see glow plug wiring harness failures. The harness and the glow plugs are cheap and from what I can tell the computer doesn't know which one is which (glow plug that is) so it is best to replace the entire harness and plugs in one go. Doesn't take too long and is pretty easy to do.

The only other electrical issues one might see are the foolish door lock trigger gizmo (sorry I can't recall the name of it), anyway, they go south and the alarm will not work properly as a result. These units aren't that cheap but are easy to replace and tend to fail if someone is hard on the doors (slamming etc.)

Otherwise they run forever. MAPS seldom fail (unlike what they say on TDI Club) and if they do they too aren't too bad $$ and can be replaced easily. Before you do that though try cleaning and such.

On the subject of intakes, I have AFE stage 1's on both of my TDI's and they work great. I can't speak for the other brands but I'm sure they are similar.

Metal shavings in the pan - like the bottom of the sump? That's not normal. Now, unless you hit something (which is common) and you don't have a good skid plate (we use evolution plates) you will be responsible for a new block.

No, It isn't but it is well worth the money. When we were in Biz selling parts we would sell these things faster than we could keep in them in stock.

Look up Evolution Imports for the unit that will fit.
