it only took me & my cuz. about 3-1/2hr. to put it in with out removing the factory panels in the wheel wells but you do need to drop the spare and a floor jack and block of woodto push the center plate up. only got $ 400 in the whole thing minus a six pack of beer

I have wondered about the fifth wheel plate that mounts into the turnover ball. Does anyone have experience with using the 5th plate and a shortbed. I have an 06 mega, and am worried that without a slider plate a fifth wheel rv might contact the cab, especially in tight maneuvering. Does anybody know for sure?

If you have a mega I would think that it would be best to have a slider but I have no experience with that.

The B&W 5th wheel adapter is just as slick as the hitch itself. With a short bed though it all depends on what your pullin and how sharp you wanna be able to cut it. To be safe a slider is your best bet, but the drawback is that the only good ones I've ever seen myself made your bed a dedicated 5th wheel, they don't pop in and out. And be carefull cause most of them on the market are junk and to complicated to use right.

B&W also makes the extenders that go out to someplace around 5 inches to give some extra room.

How do the extenders work? Are they adjustable on the fly, or do they bolt in and the 5 inches is set? I am looking for a hitch that will work well with a decent sized fifth wheel rv trailer (don't have it yet, still working on that part). I would also like the versatility to be able to haul a gooseneck trailer (flatbed). I'm worried with the shortbed and solid mount hitch that I won't have enough room to maneuver a large camper. If I was just going to pull a gooseneck, I wouldn't think twice about it.

Heres the web page showing the extenders. http://www.turnoverball.com/turnover.asp#

You can pull any goosneck flat bed and most enclosed trailers with a short bed. The problem is with the new style big RV's with the flat front deck on them. When you turn the RV to sharp it is wide enough that it will get into the back of the cab on your truck.

They also make extenders that go on the RV end of the hitch also. No matter what anybody says about they have used them and never had a problem, don't do it. They put to much torque on the pin in your RV and tend to rip it right out of the trailer. Most manufacturers will void your warranty if they find you have used them. But people insist on taking the cheap way out and continue to do it. I'm sure somebody will come on here and argue the point now that I have said this. So as a disclaimer: This is just my opinion. Feel free to voice yours.

In our shop complex there is a guy who has a slider and a 33' Toy hauler and it left a big impression in the C pillar of his Mega Cab Dually... Turned to sharp and whamo. Truck was only 2 months old. Never the less, the toy hauler has been parked in the parking lot for the last year without moving.

We have done a companion on a Dmax and the owner loved it and another customer has the extender for his B&W with the Companion and says it still comes close with his short bed F-350 and has tweaked the extender a bit with only two pulls on it. I think for the long bed trucks the companion is ideal and marginal with short bed trucks, but your mega short bed would not be my first choice to use the B&W with companion.

got one and I like it. Also have the 5th wheel adapter and have had no problems towing or turning with our 30 foot 5th wheel.

If I couldn't use the B&W companion, what slider hitch would you guys recommend? I really don't want to crush the cab of my truck. Especially because my daughter rides back there!
