I thought about a front engined RV / Toy Hauler, but I'll be hauling my Honda four wheeler and I plan on loading it in the back of the truck at base camp and hauling it to the woods for hunting purposes etc. Did I mention that the truck is also gonna be 4x4? The wife and I plan on loading up the four wheeler, a couple of kayaks, some guns and fishing gear, and just travel around the country hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. I'm going for a toy hauler with a 12 foot separated garage in the rear. I think they need to be at least 36' for that. We've got a small bumper pull now, but the truck and fifth wheel will be our retirement. Plan on traveling for months at a time, so it will need to be a nice combo. I guess I could drag a full size truck behind a pusher with the four wheeler and kayaks loaded on the truck. But I also want to be able to lock everything up inside and go off somewhere without it too. I'm still a few years from retirement, so I'm really debating whether or not to buy the truck now or later. It would be cheaper now for sure. But they may come out with some awesome new trucks in a few years too! My current truck is in fantastic shape, so I don't "need" one now, but I sure want one! Again, thanks for all the input, and I hope to get some more.

Just my .02, but I'd go with a older truck (5.9L) and a 6spd. If I still had my 2007 for sale it would have been perfect because you could use 2wd low to back up the trailer. It is a really nice feature for big trailers. These things run forever. Why get into a huge payment? Spend the money on something fun in retirement...

My grandfather has been doing this for yrs now they started off in a 5ver and decided it was getting to be to much work setting up so they bought a manaco with a double stack trailer. The trailer served as a boat trailer and a small truck trailer. It was cool be cause the boat would raise up and he could drive his ex cab ranger under it. I don't know your budget but I'm sure the price of a new TH and a truck would be close to a good used setup. I don't know if you have priced a TH that big of I'm not mistaken a 12' garage is on the 40' which would be a 38' living space they are running about $40-80k new depending on what you want added to it. And the truck depending on what you get $35-60k so your looking at $75-140k for a new 5ver setup. I guess it comes down to what you want. I have seen TH pushers as well if I'm not mistaken the garage is not separated. But with these you can pull your truck behind it and load the wheeler in the truck to save space in the pusher but also lock it up if you leave camp. There are so many options you just have to find out what exactly you want.
