Default Can your transmission be too cold?

I'm a new diesel owner just bought a 94 12 valve earlier this year. Anyways, I use my exclusively for hauling my dragbike trailer to races. This past weekend I installed a trans temp gauge. As I was driving to and from the landfill with a very small load I noticed my trans temp stayed between 145-155 even just sitting there idling for 10 minutes while I unloaded. I've read that ideal temp should be closer to 175 which leads me to ask if your trans can be too cool?

specs: 1994 12 valve, automatic, single cab, 4x4, fresh transmission rebuilt 1000 miles ago, billet TC, factory trans cooler and aftermarket trans cooler.

Good thread!! My trans was rebuilt almost 2 yrs ago, and it a hell of a lot more stout than it was before. My trans runs cool as well. We had a pretty hot summer this year, and my trans never reached 170*. 2 wks ago I took a 300 mile trip, flat hwy in southern New Mexico. I was pulling my 11k travel trailer at 65 mph steady ,My trans temp was at 158*. Daytime temp that day was at roughly 88*. I run purely synthetic ATF. Just for ***** and giggles I replaced the T-stat, and still no change in temps. I just don't know bro......... Maybe someone will chime in on this..........

I called a friend who rebuilds automatic transmissions and is known in my area for building high performance drag racing transmissions. he said as long as its above 115/120 its fine. he said the 150 range is absolutely ideal

No problem Bigg Redd glad I could help. It was never something I really thought about until I hooked up the new gauge and noticed the temp seemed just a hair lower than the 175 that I read was ideal. Let me know if you find yourself in Chattanooga, Tn. and I'll buy you that beee
