Can I go DOWN in wheel size?

I've got an '05 F250 Lariat. Its got the tow suspension, or at least the helper springs. I have 18" Ford wheels and want to go down to 17" Mickey Thompsons. Will this work? What should I watch out for?

should clear i'd think but the back spacing and stuff could be an issue

I was thinking about getting some Classic II's, but now I don't know if I can find tires any less expensive than what im using now.

How much room do you have between your current wheels and the brake calipers? That is usually the determining factor between how small of a rim size you can use.
