There was no discussion on the 15 second trucks....just the sub-12 second ones.

See above post.

Something else to take into consideration is having barriers that reduce the energy of the vehicle in the impact....not immediately stop it.

see my previous post about reinforcing the barriers so they will dissipate more energy instead of snaping off the post like twigs and peeling off the railing like a banana when hit.....

Minor correction. The debate is whether 13 and 12 second trucks are told they need a rollbar to run.

To be honest, regardless of what you read, there aren't many sub 11.50 trucks. The reason is the rollbar rule. After all these big and little events, I've only seen perhaps a dozen out of a few thousand. Even National events will have 400 normal trucks to 6 sub-11.50 trucks roughly.

If they want to monkey with the trailer queens behind closed doors, few are affected.

If they want to extend it to 13/12 second trucks, thousands are affected, and why the outcry.

This is not about my trucks, TTS trucks, or TS Performance trucks. This is about the guys out there at the track every week that you don't see in the magazines. They are the heart of the "sport".

PS - Any demand by a "diesel group" to track owners to fix their track or else, probably will have the effect of banning diesels at that track. I have been told this is being discussed as well.

This is my last post in this thread, as I've said my peace. If you are involved with racing your street diesel pickup, and you don't want new tighter rollbar rules for 13/12 second trucks, you need to make your voices heard. While folk get sick of my voice, I am concerned about this issue, and have never heard of a race club ever try to run themselves out before. It needs to be nipped in the bud. Most the "rules" made by diesel organizations are made in private. So this rule could have already been decided, and we are too late. But just in case, the Silent Majority needs to speak up now.

Guys, the discussion is all about what can we do. I do not know or understand all the legal crap that goes on nor do I really want too, but if we do nothing I'm afraid that will be all we get to do in the future........... no racing. So if we can find common ground to improve the safety of these vehicles and show them that we have taken a step in the right direction.......

In my mind anything slower than 13.00 doesn't need any safety modifications 12.99 - 11.99 should get a roll bar or some sort of roll over protection. 11.99 and quicker should get a roll cage. To me this is reasonable and it's going to affect less than 1% of people that race heavy weight vehicles.

Now how things do or don't get done is where we get some input, maybe. Let's say we talk about a roll bar that installs in the bed of the truck and can be removed. It solves the issue of having it in the cab and for those who use the bed it's a minor problem to have to remove it and install it for racing. Someone else came up with an idea about using some structural foam added to the pillar areas. Any other ideas are welcomed so that we can present options that can be considered. For the trucks running quicker than 11.99 the same thing goes, come up with some other ideas that can be brought to the table in discussions.

If we all sit back and say no were not doing anything as some have suggested the changes will be made and we will of had no input which just seems silly too me when we had the chance.

Better safety barriers on the tracks, if i could plow through a fire hydrant at 40mph a little metal fence aint gonna stop me....

Guys relax, nobody is gonna mandate a thing ....... The NHRA rules are in place for a reason. We have talked with the NHRA and they are comfortable with the current regulations ....

The truck didn't "roll" -- it did a barrel roll IN THE AIR and landed against the pole - yes, that stopped him...

but he should have never left the surface anyway -- that is the real problem here . That truck didn't "roll" on the ground like everyone is trying to say it did, hence the none to only minor damage on the roof/stacks...

That damage looked to be caused by the impacts with the guard rails/barriers -- and if it DID roll as you stated, then that has NOTHING to do wiht a rollbar/cage..

and also, MOST trucks roll in that fashion, not on the roof -- they tip forward and roll over the fenders/A-pillars -- to me it appears the truck caught the edge when he landed sideways and did a barrel roll, didn't roll like a guy losing control on a dirt road and rolling his truck.. had he not hit the telephone/light pole, then he likely would have actually rolled in that fasion.

Looking at the video in slow motion it looks like it might have been finishing the 2nd roll when it hit the pole .........if you see the way the cab is folded around the cage on the passenger front corner, it would have been crushed had it only been a roll bar.
