Mosin Naget
It all depends on a informed consumer, one who shops around looking for deals...
I've gotten some really good deals on ammo at gunshows, but now purchase most on line. I've got a 03FFL and some places give you a discount for that...
Have played with quite a few Mosin Nagants & almost purchased a few...but figured I'd stay with what I've got instead of adding another weapon system/caliber to the stable...
Still might get one someday...

i bought my 91/30 a few years ago, first gun i bought when i turned 18 actually, i think i payed 95 bucks or something, the guy had some steel core rounds he sold me for 2 bucks for 20, fun gun. ive lightened the trigger added a scout scope and a snow cammo job, its a whole new rifle. ive debated buyin another one just for fun.
I had bought a 91/30 in January this year, waited 3 months to shoot it(had to wait for some snow to melt), took it out a couple times, then sold it for what I had in it. I might pick one up again sometime. I'd kinda like to get a M44 though.
I like the more compact m-44 better, cause it would fit under my truck rear seat. But it's hard finding target ammo, surplus ammo is corrosive, but cheap plinking ammo. Just wash the bore with soap & water, then solvent, lastly a light coat of oil.
