Hey, all shot's don't always go as planned either. I've shot deer before and stood there in amazement after they ran off...

An injured animal will do some pretty incredible things.

My old man shot a coyote once during archery season. He watched the coyote run down the field about 100 yards and stop. It layed down and literally tore it's own insides out of itself to get the arrow out, then got up and started trotting off. It didn't make it very far, but it's probably one of the craziest things to see yet in the woods.

This is all very much true, however, there are a few simple "standard operating procedures" when it comes to shooting a bear with a rifle that will greatly reduce, if not eliminate, the chances of a "runaway pissed off" bear, and also some important "SOPs" when tracking and dispatching a wounded bear that will greatly reduce the chances of a fatal counterattack.

The hunters weren't prepared.

It's really hard to say if they were prepared or not according to the article.

Living on the edge of bear country and venturing into it you sometimes wonder if ya are prepared or not...some people swear by bear spray & Rampy says that's just people seasoning...

In some states it's illegal to carry a handgun when bow hunting...care to go bear hunting with a bow and no handgun?? But it's illegal and if you get caught with a handgun your hosed...even if it's never been shot...

I'll take my chances with the deer and turkeys. I have no need to shoot a bear of any size!

All true...'specially the people seasoning part. I've found bear spray cans with teeth marks; lots of teeth marks.
