API RIA 1911A1 FS 45 TAC 8 $437.00 SHIPS FREE

It's only a RIA and not a $1k+ gun but I have a few friends with em and they love em. One lives and breaths 1911's, he says its a good gun, not the best in his collection by far but nothing wrong with it at all for a shooter, he has never had any malfunctions even in the typical 1911 break in period. Other friends report a couple issues in the first 100-200 rounds but great running from there on. I've shot em and like em. That and all the reviews on them have been that they are GREAT guns for the price. Should be a good plinking gun....

I was going to go with the base gun for $50 less and do the nice grip safety, skeleton hammer, trigger and beavertail myself but with Steph being a lefty I like the ambi safety on the "tacticool" model plus the Novak style sights. The sights will be swapped out to night sights but with the tactical model I wont have to have the slide machined for the front.

Need to order up some more mags for it and see what I got to work with, gonna need a decent cheap holster too. I love my Crossbreeds but this wont be a carry gun, might carry it every so often but not enough to justify $80+...

Also gotta get some grips... That flat wood aint gonna cut it and I want to polish the barrel.

NIce! I have been eyeing these for quite some time. I always hold one when I happen upon them at gun shows and I really like them.:tu:

RIA 1911s are great I've got the base model and never had a problem and mine gets thrown in the truck and open carried around the farm. I did have my uncle file and polish the ramp from the mag well

RSWORDS 07-11-2011 07:36 PM

It's all I can do to keep from ordering these... :D

Young Grasshopper, You have opened your eyes, There is nothing like a 1911, option are boundless, buy your 1911 mags from cdnn sport, I think they have the metalform 1911 45 mags for $6. Now you'll be a serious pistolero:tu:

Old Grasshopper.... I still have my Glock 23 on my hip... Don't get you hopes up to high :D

I love guns, all guns, I have a VERY well rounded collection of all sorts of things. I've shot plenty of 1911 all the way up to $2k and up ed whatever his name is guns.... They are real nice. I like my Glocks better for Carry.

I need a budget holster. OWB is fine.

Also looking at a add on rail.... Any thoughts?

Cal Ranch has the Citadels(pretty close to the RIAs) for about 500.

Ramprat 07-11-2011 09:46 PM

Nice looking pistol, have played with a few of em and can't say anyhting bad about em considering the price point.

I'd stay away from the cheap mags...even for range use I've never had good luck with em...but they do give you lots of practice in weapon malfunction drills....now the only mags I get are McCormick Shooting Star magazine's excellent mags and the price is not to bad...

I've got these 10-8 grips on order for the Springer TRP...

it is also good to have a mag that will randomly fail. knowing that it will randomly fail, do not use it in a defense situation, though use it for training to simulate when a failure will occur with a regular good mag that isn't suppose to fail....

RSWORDS 07-11-2011 10:12 PM

:edit: this 1911 stuff "Oh they are teh greatest gun ever, 100 years running and nothing is better, oh you gotta try 10 different parts till you find the one that runs in your gun"

:D

At least with my Glock I know if I buy a Glock mag it will function in my particular gun

:D

turbostang7 07-11-2011 10:14 PM

everything that i have put mine through has worked out well, haven't found much that doesn't work on it. i think there was one mag that failed and i kinda knew it was before i even shot it, but it was a gift so had to use it once for them haha.

RSWORDS 07-11-2011 10:16 PM

I'm more or less giving Gunman hell trying to get him worked up... :D

Don't forget.....how many makers of glock mags are there & how much does a mag cost...

Now how many makers of 1911 mags are their & what is the price difference between a cheap import mag and a good quality mag???

:humm::humm::tttt::tttt::tttt::tttt::tttt:

Benjamin 07-11-2011 10:17 PM

on the RIA, don't ASSume that JHP will RELIABLY feed through the gun. i rely on mine to punch paper with FMJ. it does that like clockwork......

I've noticed that the Rock Islands run cheaper. Not sure why since both them and the Citadels are made in the Philippines.

RSWORDS 07-11-2011 10:20 PM

They are both manufactured by Armscor...

:humm::humm::tttt::tttt::tttt::tttt::tttt:

but the Glock mag holds roughly twice as many bullets as a STANDARD USGI 1911 mag... so to me that justifies the price difference....

and on a Glock, it is Glock ONLY mags, i won't attempt to use the Korean ones. on the 1911's there are so many variants, everyone and their brother makes a 1911A1 so for them to conform and be normal all the mags are made to USGI specs..... never had one that i didn't like.... i use my Colt mags just because.....

RSWORDS 07-11-2011 10:52 PM

In my little research I see lots of "quality" mags that some guns don't like, some of them running more then Glock mags. I've got a couple Koren mags (with large whiteout stripes on them so I don't use them for anything but range use) never had a problem with them... Still carry name brand when my life depends on it...

I think I have a magazine addiction... How may is too many? :D I have 10 mags for the G23.... loaded... 10 for EACH of the 3 AR's... Loaded... 5 for my Saiga12.... Loaded... a drum for the Saiga12... Loaded.... 5 or 6 for teh AK that I have not built yet... not-loaded :D.... pretty much anything I have that needs a magazine goes like this... And 3 of the 30rnd 9mm Glock mags.... I don't own a 9mm Glock... :D

Thinking I like collecting mags more then guns. :D
